I waited on computer technology, but I'm on only my third one in the last 25 years.

When was the last time NASCAR operated without manufacturer involvement? Was it before or after my gramma got her first dial phone?

What you have been told may or may not be true. Meanwhile, major cities around the world host Formula E events, shutting down vehicular and pedestrian traffic in busy commercial and residential areas for days at a time.

Something’s going on.
 
All I hope is that it brings more parity to the sport on a race to race basis. The current less-driver-input car provides more of an engineering advantage than we have ever seen.

People can overlook this, but today's general statistics of average finish, top 5s and top 10s are without a doubt statistically inflated. Absolutely zero doubt about it. A plot graph would show this too. Only two drivers between the years of 1999-2013 had seasons with 27+ top 10s. That was in 2007 and 2008.

Between 2013-2019, it's happened every year with multiple drivers, with the exception of 2013. You have Harvick, Busch, Truex and Logano putting up 26+ tops 10s per year every season. That didn't happen prior to the gen 6. If you were to combine top 5s and top 10s, and take the 5 highest from each season, you would see a spike from 2014-2019. It's because of this car. 27 top 10s seem like what would have been 23 or 24 top 10s ten years ago in terms of consistency. (Which makes 2007 all the more impressive).

I grew up watching this sport where the best teams wouldn't dominate EVERY single week. Despite there being a clear best car or two each year, any competitive team could compete for wins on a race to race basis. Id love for the gen 7 to take us back to that

What sound? The roar of the big block not muffled by an exhaust system? You haven't had that in years. You could have the original sound that rattled your ear drums on an electric car today.
 
I will never understand the reluctance some people have to change in race cars when in their own lives they constantly seek change. New phones, cars, smart homes etc. And yet they still want a 1986 Ford to race.
I doubt some of those people even know what they want.
I love change, my nurse comes and changes me every 4 hours. :D

Lol, no you can’t. Even if you got close, the sound system would be heavy and take away performance.

Besides, when these cars roll by even at highway speeds you can feel them in your bones. Thats the appeal of this sport. It’s adrenaline stimulating.

Maybe for you, but not for everyone. I've sworn off attending any more races until the put mufflers on the cars. And every new fan I've taken to a race has said the same thing. I would rather deal with TV commercials interrupting the action, and I hate commercials.
 
The only reason I enjoy Daytona live, rather then staying at home on my comfortable couch -- is the penetrating sound of those engines when the crowd is up on their feet and cars come thundering by (especially with the Pack). That exhilarating wave of thunderous joy shooting thru the crowd makes the race.

But yeah, it's noisy. In a few years it will sound like a Smoothie Shop -- a bunch of appliances running the loops while flashing LED Billboard panels so they can sell parts of races to various sponsors. Look like a bunch of Vegas Taxis, smell like neo-hippies, and a sea of p*ssy-hats celebrating the emasculation of NASCAR.

I quit going to local dirt track due to the noise. Plus the fact the pits used to have a more collaborative/welcoming attitude. Now everyone covers every available opening on the cars so you can't see their suspension set-up or tire choice. I looked under front runners car several years ago and they got all pissy. Nope. Done.

Cool story but I don’t believe it. For decades the answer to every question about NASCAR is “just go to a race” and nine times of ten it creates a new fan. Even my wife who sleeps through every TV race will jump at the chance to attend. It’s an experience.

If your ears are sensitive, wear plugs or buy a scanner. If you are complaining about the noise level of 35+ race cars you are in the wrong sport.

You blame them? They worked hard to achieve an advantage and and most likely stay within rules. Why would you share that? It's a race someone wins, we don't give out participation trophies to the entire field

This place is becoming increasingly eccentric and untethered to reality. NASCAR sans manufacturers and quiet / high pitched cars aren't on tap for 2021 or 2031. Maybe make a 2041 thread and bat these fantasies around there.

As noise-averse as I am, even I know you can buy hearing protection. Ear plugs are usually $3 trackside. Better gear is at any hardware store for $20, and you can reuse it when you mow the lawn or the in-laws visit.

I'm an atheist. :p

It's different for drag. You aren't exposed to the sound constantly for hours. It's brief periods for only a few seconds. (I still wouldn't attend drag for other reasons.)
 
I have an earbud in each ear, radio broadcast on one side, scanner in the other, with headphones over the top. The noise doesn't seem to bother me at all.

From what Knaus and St. Hilaire said it does sound like there's a big concern dollars-wise in junking everything Gen-6 and then building up an entirely new fleet. Long term budgets sound much more reasonable though.

Not much is yet known on who the suppliers will be. St. Hilaire offered that the process is still being worked out on “a ton of things. Things like the chassis and certain parts and pieces have been awarded, which has been good, and we’re under budget as of now, so that’s always a good thing. We saw a big number in the beginning, but a lot of things coming in is a lot less than what we initially anticipated, so that’s good to see. I think everything is going to come out pretty good.”

i did the full weekend right at the start line,
every day ears blown out, body shaken, eyes burning from nitro fumes, clothes black from rubber snowing down, just one of lifes great experiences.

They only are allowed 12 chassis this year per car and some teams had well over a hundred before that rule. I don't think it will be that big a task
 
Obviously, the "S" in NASCAR stands for SOUND.

Okay, now I'm just reaching... :p

Seriously though, isn't the loud roar exactly what one anticipates when they head to ANY kind of race, let alone a NASCAR race? I can't tell you guys how much fun the local dirt track is, even if it makes my ears ring a bit.
