500 RACE thread

Look at the replay Joey didn’t work with the 34 either. He had a chance to hook up but chose the line that was best for HIM. I watched it again Joey has no argument
Yeah could be, could have been discussed before the restart also. Heck if I know. Trying to find info around after the race among complaints there wasn't enough show for some. Preece said he got schooled :D finished 8th.

What replay? Your replay shows an interview?

Joey has an argument -- but he just shouldn't bother himself with a hack driver like McDowell.

Except that's not what happened.

Anyway, I'm sure Ford Racing saw it the way rival Jeff Gordon saw it -- McDowell chose unwisely. He should be looking for another low-tier team on Monday -- doubtful any of the Toyota or Chevy teams wants an untalented lowlife who will double-down against their company on a big stage.

On other news, Logano should walk the other way. He's a bonafide Cup Champion.

Eh, It's tough to predict the future at 200 mph.
Also it seems quite clear that he entitled Mr. Logano would have just used him ala Blaney in the Duel.
I would certainly hope that Ford sees nothing wrong with one of their drivers going for it on the last lap.

Called a DVR you can watch it over and over.Don’t care what he says I can see for myself

Ford was watching as their new Mustang pushed KyBu instead of Logano at a critical point on the last lap.

Congrats to Toyota and their teamwork to capture the podium.

Congrats to McDowell for standing up for his decision to lose several positions while mocking Team Ford unity.

5th feels really good when you know you at least gave it your all!
2nd sucks when you know you still left something on the table!

When its the Dayona 500, you don look at your emblem on the last few laps. You try to win

Sounds like McDowell had some animosity and maybe a motive for not helping out his fellow Ford. He said as much in his answer.

Toyota teammates played it smart -- and even though KyBu isn't too happy, Team Toyota came out of the carnage owning the podium. Jones cruised past Logano and McDowell, and that opportunity was actually a gift.

"Hang together or hang together"...

great choice ya lost 4 places o_O

Good. A race car driver putting winning behind a ******* manufacture doesn't belong in a race car.

People who criticize this take.. have you guys participated in competition? It's not like a team sport. He doesn't win crap if he pushes another Ford to the win. Lets get a grip... A competitor doing what he can to win is a bonehead? Let's get a grip.

Agreed. This ain’t F-1, it’s every man for himself at the end.

But that's not what happened. He went out of his way not to push Logano and ended up losing positions. He seemed pretty certain in his interviews that it was s deliberate choice not to go with Logano based on earlier events (from his perspective).

Not a Hamlin fan, but maybe karma for giving away his Homestead Pit Stall.

JGR owns the podium. If other teams aren't ready to evolve and do what it takes, then Holy Joe will smite them.

Ford. Believe it or not, and in case you missed the race...

But it's not McDowell falling on his sword -- because that's not how it works. You help the other car so that you can beat the other car for the lead.

Anyway, hard to believe that a Ford rival like Jeff Gordon mentioned it right away, and you are still scratching your head...

McDowell went for it, it didn’t work out but I don’t blame him for it. No use crying about it now.

ah, my best guess is that both Logano and McDowell would have had a better finish if they had stuck together. But who knows. McDowell didn't have the car, and Joey would have left him hanging in a heartbeat just as easily. All of the fast Fords were wiped out at that point anyway, and the JGR cars were in much better shape. Good race though, really enjoyed it.

He made decision like he said. Its a choice. Good on MD

Oh my goodness. I guess somebody should go inform Michael McDowell that he failed to participate in the Joey Logano show. He finished 5th. It’s the Daytona 500. He’s not Logano’s teammate or his blood relative. No reason he is obligated to do what isn’t in his own best interests on the last lap. Logano didn’t help Bowyer win in a Ford on Thursday, guess he should be canned

At the end of the day, we are talking about a bunch of racecar drivers. Racecar drivers are notoriously selfish; they have to be, as only one guy comes out on top.

Of course Logano is going to argue that McDowell should have helped him. Why? He wanted to win the Daytona 500.

Of course McDowell is going to race Logano hard and not cave in just because Logano is also a Ford driver. Why? He wanted to win the Daytona 500.

I doubt either of them are getting sent home for this. It's what they are paid to do.

Actually, not the slightest bit. My guy still has several more opportunities to take home some championship trophies.
If I was butthurt about the events of last season, I wouldn't be following what's going on now.
So you can have your little jar of Vaseline back. :p

Gotta give Ross Chastain some more props where they are due.
  • Finished 3rd in the Friday night Truck race. Best ever finish for Niece Motorsports.
  • Won stage two and finished 13th in the Xfinity race; currently second in Xfinity standings.
  • First career Cup top-ten with 10th today, in a "Premium" Motorsports car, no less!
Getting dropped from CGR last minute has only given the man more determination.

• wreckfest..truck was slow as hell keeping out of the ridiculous amount of wrecks

• Good Job

• see truck race notes

Its daytona anything can happen..

Going by the stats instead of when the pay window is open doesn't tell the story in Ross's case a lot of times. I thought he had the Xfinity race won but a couple of bad pits slowed him down. The other two races he was driving slow ones and still pulled out great finishes. He has two more in Xfinity, with Kaulig, Texas and Darlington I believe and that is a decent ride.

Huge upset. When the track got hot, the playing field leveled. Just awesome. TRD 1-2-3. Loved every second of it. Hell yes! Now, off to the Rate the Race Thread!

Green-White-Checker.....Kyle and Denny were sure as hell looking at emblems. That's why Kyle let Denny in.
Would have been nice to see the Fords at least TRY to work together instead of McDowell trying to give Kyle the W.. but it is what it is. I can be gracious in defeat. Your boys solidated when it counted and finished 1,2,3. Congrats!

Sorry if this has already been covered, but can anyone explain why Logano is tied with Hamlin in the point standings? Why is Logano ahead of KyBu when Busch had more stage points, laps led, and finished higher. What am I missing?

10 points for winning the duel.
