Fall/Winter Weather Thread

OK, so I feel really, really bad for you guys. Freezing to death ain't no way to live. :(
I'm gonna grill burgers for supper. I'm gonna have a BBQ powwow and ask the BBQ gods to send BBQ mojo to the east coast to melt away all of your troubles :)
No snow around here today either Bobby.
This was my day

Get some much needed rest :D
Got a feed too

I know that trick Clutch, you have that fish pushed up close to the camera to make it look bigger. We just step on them around here. :):):) Nice one, just kidding

I would of been a meteorologist if I had known they would let me do this:

I worked in a restaurant for 10 years. I know I could get $12-$14 for this 1/2 lb., 73/27% angus burger, onion bun with 1/4" red potato flat fries & Bob's Big Boy Roquefort dipping sauce.

I'm sending a thaw out east.....
I just gained ten pounds looking at it, damn that looks good.

I know to most of you my weather is like "so what" but we aren't used to it and are basically shut down including all roads and businesses, lot's of power outages. 14 degrees now (wind chill 3) with 3" to 4" of ice and snow and will not get above freezing today. Tonight It's expected to be 12 degrees (wind chill 0). But my BL is cold.
Also it's the first time I've had to get a large flathead screw driver to pry my truck door open.

-18 on the thermometer again this morning when I got up. The cold water side of my master bathrooms faucet is froze up this morning and remains so. Had to put one of those little cube heaters in there this morning. I'll leave it do the work for me today. That's only the second time that has happened to us in 19 years of being in the house.

3rd day in a row that my kids have not had school. Monday it was the snow from the weekend and the last two because of the temps. We had 9 1/2" of snow Friday into Saturday. 4" more Sat night. 5" again on Sunday night. My wife hoped to see 10" on Monday night. I told her she'd be severely disappointed. ;)

Tried to get some carpet for my spare room today. Seems most of the carpet mills are in the south and in the east. They are closed because of weather.
Figures, I had to pick special order carpet

Yeah the mob will have to blame the snow and their inconvenience on somebody. Even though the weather people warned them at least two days in advance.

-3° Sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between -6 and 4. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

I don't think,I will be complaining about 40° again.

Heavy snow this morning, limited visibility, and the plows haven't had much of a chance because the storm is hitting its peak during rush hour. The commute was follow the ruts and tail lights of the car ahead. Surprisingly, no SUVs in the ditch (this is a 4-5 SUV storm). About 80% of cars in the ditch are SUVs because they believe 4WD can defy physics. We should get about 6-8 inches with this storm. Just one yahoo driving a pickup fast and partly running the shoulder (just because he could) kicking up so much snow that I had white out conditions until his wake cleared.

The biggest thing many people with 4WD vehicles fail to realize is that it doesn't help them at all when it comes to stopping their vehicle, which is much more important for your safety.

I had 4WD IH Scouts (back in the day) and know they don't stop any faster than 2wd cars. I've had discussions (almost arguments) with some people who refuse to believe that, they insist that they can stop faster. 4WD has better traction (you can get into trouble faster) and better stability changing lanes but they have the same contact patch for stopping as 2wd.

about the only stopping advantage I have found when I had a jeep with a standard is that you can gear down to slow down and use the 4WD advantage, but a panic stop there is no difference. Most SUV's (station wagons) are top heavy 2 wheel drives around here anyway. They tend to flip over like turtles when it rains and the roads are slick.

The State of Georgia's got some 'splaining to do.

No worries...the Governor just said at a news conference that he is taking "full responsibility". LOL.

I always wish some reporter would follow up with something like "exactly what does that mean Governor?...will you be firing yourself, maybe a fine or probation?"

Bottom line is - if it snows in Atlanta it's gonna be a mess. No reason to have a thousand salt spreader trucks sitting around when it only snows about once every three years. I think I heard that there are 40 spreader trucks for the entire Atlanta Metro area. With that amount they can probably salt all the major roads in about a month.

They took a gamble. They didn't want to deploy any resources ahead of the storm and didn't want to bother closing anything because they were hoping that the storm might not hit and they wanted to save some money. It's just pure stupidity. And I bet Georgia governor's running on a platform to "cut government spending" because "government is the problem" and "government can't do anything right".

We used to have 2 seasons, winter and road construction. But there seems to be 2 winter seasons this year, snow or really cold. We went from 17 and snow yesterday to -9 today. (It typically doesn't snow below 10 degrees).

It seems to me the citizens of Atlanta should have been aware of the coming weather and plan accordingly, they know Atlanta can't handle snow.
