Fall/Winter Weather Thread

7Day_Today.jpg

Next week looks much better!

Heavy snow for the commute. One truck in the ditch, I wondered how fast that guy had to be running to get that far off the road.

We got 6 inches in 2 hours today right before I had to leave for work, Pike was a mess had to take the back way to work, left 15 minutes early and I was still late for work. I like winter, but I've had enough, we have about two and a half feet on the ground, supposed to get snow showers tomorrow, but lately snow showers have meant 3-4 inches of the white stuff. Been cold too, Ice is thick on the ponds, friday and saturday supposed to be in the 40s so might melt a little, but then next week back to 20s in the day and single digits at night. Saw on long rang forecast that said we will have this pattern of storms and cold for another 4 weeks....uggggh! Gotta say though the ski places and snowmobile guys are having a blast, and if I still had a sled I'd be riding every day.

We got a bunch of snow overnight Monday into Tuesday. It was fun sweeping off the truck. It was close to 40 degrees today though and supposed to be up to like 50 tomorrow. Hopefully some of this snow we have piled up everywhere will melt a little bit.

We are like 24" over our usual snowfall for the season so far.

It was a beautiful 62° yesterday. Today, high of 41° and cloudy and cool the rest of the week even though the weather guessers said it would be in the 60s through the weekend. Another cold snap is coming next week. :(

After a short warm spell we got perfect snowball snow which put down a nice icy layer on the roads. I saw an SUV spin out a couple cars ahead of me (he didn't do anything wrong) and the rest of us got squirrely when we got to where the SUV spun out. When I got off the freeway I noticed someone trying to stop for the light but slid through the intersection in front of me, I saw he was having trouble - we waved to each other as he slid by. When I got to work I realized most people stayed home (prudent decision). It was an intense drive this morning.

Currently 70º and windy. Under a tornado watch till 3 or so, with nasty thunderstorms on their way.

most of our snow around here is like that, close to freezing when it snows most of the time, so the first that falls turns to ice on the roads. Slicker than snot.

Worst part about this winter is that PA has had so much snow that Lincoln Speedway won't run the Ice Breaker this year, because there's still 2 feet of snow on the ground. And Lincoln doesn't cancel lightly. Hell, last year they ran, amidst snow flurries.

And this really sucks, because I was planning my first trip there for today's race. :(

We've got hard packed snow-ice on all the streets, it would be good for racing except studs are illegal here. And since we are in single digits (and getting colder) that stuff isn't going away. Driving is an adventure.

On the plus side, people don't tailgate. On the minus side there are some that don't know to let off the gas when they loose traction; they just spin the tires faster and make more ice (closet Zamboni drivers).
