Lowe's will not sponsor Johnson in 2019

Here is the meat and tators of why Low's is leaving.

Low's is paying $xxxx dollars for 36 races. HMS can get more from 3 different sponsors for 12 races each. Economics 101

If they get a half million per primary per race they will be in good shape

If they get a half million per primary per race they will be in good shape
If I recall the cost for Junior per season was 30 million.
Jeff G. was less and JJ was less than Gordon. I would guess it was costing Lowe's
24-25 mil per season. Someone may have better information.

Yes Eddie, just like it was a HUGE opportunity for Charlotte Motor Speedway when Lowes stopped sponsoring THEM. Anybody want to count off the number of fortune 500 companies that lined up for THAT sponsorship opportunity? Eddie Gossage is without a doubt one of the bigger jackasses in the NASCAR world.

What???? Do you even know Eddie? I do and you couldnt be more wrong, why would you say that?. Maybe Eddie should have said, "thats it, Lowes is leaving the sport, pack it up folks nobody can step up and fill their shoes". :bsflag:

Eddie Gossage should concentrate on getting a naming sponsor for Texas Motor Speedway and stop worrying about Jimmie Johnson. No, I don't know Eddie, but every time he makes news, it's usually by saying something provocative or stupid. He's Humpy Wheeler without the charm or the perspective.

How could you possibly infer that Gossage is "worrying" about Johnson?

The guy is a player in this game. What he said is neither provocative nor stupid.

If there were other sponsors waiting in the wings to drop Lowes kind of dollars on a race team, I might be inclined to agree with you. But the fact is, they are NOT. That says as much about NASCAR as a whole as it does about any one car or team.
There are a lot of sponsors that want to jump in. The problem is the the price to sponsor is too high. Eventually capitalism will take over and it will work itself out.

Who said he isnt working on sponsorship? Worry about Johnson, where did he do that? He's been in the business for over 30 years so I dont think he needs to change anything to be like Humpy.

So he's hasn't closed a deal on a naming rights sponsor for his track in over twenty years of running it, but he can find a sponsor for the 48 car in no time at all. I'm waiting breathlessly.

There was a great opportunity for someone to sponsor CMS after Lowes left but for some reason no one did. Eddie is a multi faceted tool in my opinion.

Is Gossage looking for a sponsor for the 48 or are you imagining things?

Eddie hasn’t changed his name.

With Lowe's leaving it might be the time to split Chad and Jimmie, it seems like the old fire is gone. Hendricks might swap Chad for one of the young guys {Byron or Bowman} crew chiefs. Might happen before the playoffs start

How many Speedways on the Schedule have title sponsors?

The teams need to figure out what they need to survive. The war of spending money for speed has priced many of them out of the market. A correction was needed and hopefully didn't come too late. NASCAR has 6 years of the current TV contract money. After that, who knows where this all goes.

Until JJ speaks, everyone is playing guessing games.
There's no way Jimmie Johnson is forced to retire the way Matt Kenseth did. If that does happen, I'll be bitter about it.
When Jimmie addressed his recent performance and future outlook last week in Phoenix, his tone was somewhat Kenseth-esque... saying he's in great physical condition, skills undiminished by age, motivation remains at a high level. Kenseth said the same many times during his last year at Gibbs, when he knew the Erik Jones squeeze play was coming but the public did not.

I'm not saying Jimmie will get dumped like Matt... I don't think he will. But with hindsight, it seems like Jimmie's comments may have been intended to reassure potential new sponsors that his race winning magic will remain unabated at age 43.

Based on his comment, it sure sounds like he is applying for the job... "Let me sell it. I’ll take a cut of the increment of the record dollars. This is a chance for a blue chip company to enter the sport and buy instant credibility with the sport’s established superstar."

Jimmie Johnson almost always starts out slow. How many times has this forum written Jimmie Johnson off at this point of the season then grumbled because he won another championship?

And there's no chance, none, Jimmie's denied the same retirement tour veterans like Gordon, Wallace, Stewart and others have enjoyed. He might, at the end of the year, decide next year is his last year. I just don't see this year being his last.

Not very many, but a few have/had them, including some tracks owned by Eddie's boss. It would seem to me that if Mr. Gossage has so much confidence in his sponsor finding skills, he would have found one for TMS. He's certainly had enough time.....

I'd work on getting a sponsor myself, doesn't look too promising on the ol. firesuit there.:D

Actually, that firesuit WAS sponsored in a way. G Force gave the team firesuits and other items in exchange for space on the car. The initial batch had large G Force logos on them. The suit in the picture was a replacement for a black one I wore originally, and for whatever reason, didn't have the big logos on it. Believe it or not, firesuits and helmets were not even mandatory for any over the wall guys except the gas man until 2003. I did many stops early on in just my crew clothes.

No reach is a reach too far.

Hang on to your lug nuts.

This thread has turned into all out anarchy, Ive been watching in between when I have a free moment here at work and I have to say I am highly entertained. I love this place.

lmao to me this could mean so many different things like reach for one's own lugnuts below the belt, actual lugnuts or someone else's lug nuts. lmao

The two things I've learned in this thread are 1. (Which I still cant believe) is that Atomic Punk is one in the same with ol Skoal Bandit 33 and 2. The Jackman (to borrow a line from Rocky II) "That man kept coming after you" he just gives us his thoughts which I sometimes agree and disagree with but he's an honest poster in my book.

The part I am looking forward to the most is this time next year when the 48 team is sponsored and running well and you know who says "I told y'all that everything was going to be fine and you yahoos said the team was going to collapse and JJ and Chad were going to get pay cuts and quit." You know its coming!!!
Are you suggesting that someone on here would stoop to misdirection and deception to avoid being accountable for what they said here in this community? Because it sounds to me like that is what you are saying in that mocking "quote" you wrote there.

Stunned and sad to read Lowes is leaving NASCAR and Jimmie Johnson at the end of this season Beyond DuPont/Gordon, it's one of the most recognizable driver/sponsor relationships in recent years

They come and they go. Such is life.

33,000 employees out the door
Yes, and as late as 6 months ago, the CEO was telling everybody they would be around for MANY years to come. I don't know, could be a lesson there. :idunno:
Not a very good ratio but its Eddie Gossages fault.
The difference is I don't hear the other track presidents crowing about how good they are at finding sponsors......
