MLB 2014

RIP to Tony Gwynn. He was one of the best pure hitters I ever saw. I don't know that there was ever a bigger student of the game either. Some of it had to do with his timing in history, but he was one of the first to really use and promote video study of his own swing as well as that of opposing pitchers into his game. Other sports were using it for scouting, mostly, but Tony really broke down tiny little details about his own swing and what pitchers did on different pitches that made him a lifetime .338 hitter. He hit .300 or better in 19 of his 20 seasons in MLB. He won 8 batting titles in those 20 seasons, meaning he won 40% of the batting titles he was eligible for. That's a pretty amazing feat. He was also a 5 time gold glove outfielder and some who may remember him as the chunky guy towards the end of his career may be surprised to know that he also the franchise leader in career stolen bases.

The Indians had the bases loaded with no out and didn't score and gave up several runs by not turning fairly routine double plays and ended up losing in extra innings, even after getting a 2 run homer in the top of the 11th. :bigfight:

Watched the Angels sweep the Twins today.. 6th w in a row. Looking gooood.

Pretty day for a ball game.

Will pay to get Dom Brown out of Philly.

Even when the Orioles are in first place, the Baltimore sports media finds stuff to bitch about.

If they think MASN sucks, they should try watching a baseball game on Fox Sports 1.

I love that the Phillies are 10 games under .500 and the front office still thinks we are in the race.

Angels lit up the rangers tonight 15-4. 2nd best record in baseball!!

Tanaka out for at least six weeks. No Pineda, Sabathia, and Nova. Record when someone other than Tanaka starts is 33-40. Yanks are done.

And of course the Phillies lose something like 10 of 13 and follow it up with a 4 game sweep of the Brewers

Who would've thought, three years ago, that we'd be talking about the AL East being a battle between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays? :XXROFL::XXROFL:

5 in a row now for the Phils...the unpredictable roller coaster continues.

The Orioles game is on ESPN in primetime tonight. It's taken approximately seven minutes of ESPN coverage to remind me why I watch FOX Sports 1.

With a 3-1 win over the New York Yankees, the Baltimore Orioles enter the All Star Break in first place in the AL East for the first time since 1997 (which was the last time they won the division) with a four game advantage over the Toronto Blue Jays (huh?) and a five game advantage over New York. :punkrocke

I loved their pre-game excuseapalooza about why the Yankees weren't in first place.

Here, allow me to offer a more accurate analysis.

The Yankees aren't in first place because the Orioles are.

Rocket science.

Yuuuup! :D
Hope he doesn't need tommy johns though :(
I've read that the doctors think the tear is small enough that it won't need surgery. Hopefully they're right.

I'm hoping the Blue Jays win the division, they have the second-longest playoff drought behind the Royals.
