Second Las Vegas Cup race

That's for sure. After Bruton built the 4 lane drag strip next to the Lowes Motor Speedway, a couple of years later the concrete started flaking and coming up in spots. He had all 4 lanes removed and re poured.
I assume he had some sort of warranty or durability guarantee from the paving company. My point is all of the repave costs likely didn't come out of his pocket.

Speedway Motorsports Inc. is shifting the fall New Hampshire Motor Speedway race to Las Vegas Motor Speedway beginning next season.

Speedway Motorsports Inc. will transfer one of New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s two Monster Energy Cup Series races to Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2018, giving the Nevada track two NASCAR race weekends annually, multiple industry sources confirmed to SB Nation.

New Hampshire will retain its July Cup Series race , with its September race going to Las Vegas. The reallocated date is part of the 10-race Cup Series playoffs.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway officials have scheduled a “special announcement” press conference for 5:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. That announcement will come 30 minutes after the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority convenes a special meeting of its Board of Directors, where they will have voted whether to pay Las Vegas Motor Speedway $2.5 million a year for seven years to promote two races at the facility. That vote is expected to be in favor of the deal, a person with direct knowledge of the situation, but not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed to SB Nation.

Well, the argument could be made that "same ol' same ol' " will be counterbalanced by Charlotte switching to the road course. It could be made, but I'm not making it. I think it sucks. I hear all the arguments the 1.5'ers are different but from my couch, Charlotte, Vegas, and Texas all look like the same race.

But like most changes in sports, this has nothing to do with competition and everything to do with economics. The latter will always trump the former. You'd think they'd at least schedule it before Phoenix to save the teams some travel money, kind of a second 'West Coast swing'.

Yep, it's the same race to me too.

I have no issues with this, especially taking from New Hampshire. Really wish it had come from Pocono even though that's a whole other discussion.

1.5 miles tracks are boring boring boring. With low downforce in place, half the field will be at least one lap down after 30 laps. Yawn.

Oh goodie, more 1.5 milers. Gee, can't have enough of those. /sarcasm

Cool, not the championship race but if it gets rid of New Hampshire then I'm fine with it.

I just had an idea, since it seems like Miami will still be the Championship race, what if the 2nd Las Vegas race was used to start the Playoffs and move Chicagoland to another part of the schedule? I think a Saturday Night prime time race to start the Nascar Playoffs in a locale like Vegas would be a nice consolation if they cant get the final race of the season.

Not "cool" in Vegas in September can be anywhere from 90 - 105 degrees. I assume it will be a night race though.
We're assuming they don't rearrange the schedule too, at least for the Chase.

I lived in Vegas when I as in high school in the mid-70s. Sept. is better than August on average, but individual days over 100 were common. It's a great town to visit then, but only if you stay in the AC'ed casinos.

Can you move Chicago past mid-October without the risk of that cold fluffy white crapola?

I had a feeling we were going to lose a none 1.5 mile track so Vegas could a second date, while I agree the racing hasnt been the best at NH, least it wasnt a 1.5 mile track.

It can't be. 7pm over there is 10pm on the East Coast. My guess is it'll be a Saturday twilight race that starts at 4:45 over there, 7:45 east coast. That's the latest start time NASCAR has had in the Cup series for a few years now.

Now look two columns to the right, where it says 'Record: 106'.

Now click the 'Monthly' tab and see the Max Temperature for Sept. 16 was 104. On that same page, scroll down to the Monthly detail data that shows it was at or over 98 for eight days in the first two weeks. Note that on the 18th and 19th, it climbed back up to 99 and 100 again.

"But it's a dry heat!"

I was hoping back to July, I was okay with that night race from 2008-2013 I believe it was.

so I would do this:1st Round: Las Vegas-New Hampshire-Dover 2nd Round: Charlotte-Dega-Kansas 3rd Round: Martinsville-Texas-Phoenix Championship Race: Miami

Oh, I wasnt trying to say the weather was perfect for racing, its still bloody f****************** hot in September out here in the southwest( I live Phoenix)

It will be interesting to see Loudon can survive with just one Cup date in the summer. SMI will need to get creative IMO.

Except that NH's Chase weekend goes to Vegas. ISC isn't going to take Chicago out.
It's unfortunate that it has to be like that because the Chicagoland race to kick off the playoffs is so far down the local sports list when it comes here. The Bears, Cubs in a pennant race and college football matter more here than the NASCAR race.

The new NASCAR buzzword is...

In 2018, Speedway Motorsports (NYSE: TRK) will realign the September Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races from New Hampshire Motor Speedway and the September NASCAR XFINITY Series race from Kentucky Speedway to create the two triple-header weekends in Las Vegas.

So for New England race fans like myself, I don't view NHMS as losing a date, I view it as the date getting realigned to a different track 2,000 miles away :D

Haven't heard @MAGICMILER chime in at all on this. Oh wait, the river near my house is rising. I guess he got the news and is now crying himself to sleep :)

No wonder Sylvania dropped their sponsorship. No use selling light bulbs to a track that won't have night races. Bruton screwed us. Already bought tix for September as usual. 28 years of being a "loyal" fan. And no reach around......
Martinsville in 2018...

Wait a minute. Isn't Kentucky's Sept. weekend an X/Truck double-header? If the X race moved to Vegas, does that leave the Truck race as a standalone, will something else be added to accompany it, or will it be moved somewhere else too?
