2021 Silly Season

How about a "Hey, is there anything WE can do? How about, "Is there anything we can learn from this for the future? How about, "Hey, I know you sunk millions of dollars into this deal and it didn't end well. We are real sorry about that, as we NEED good car owners that try to field competitive cars, and if your situation changes, we would love to try to get you back involved in the sport in some way". Would ANY of those things be too much to ask? Oh, I forgot. There are literally dozens of millionaires lining up at the door to turn their large fortunes into small ones by fielding a Nascar team.

That would require NASCAR to understand that they have priced themselves into a situation where the field is shrinking, sponsors don't or can't lob truckloads of cash into teams that don't run up front, and that the "its our way or the highway' style of management was last used effectively 20+ years ago before Brian took over as CEO.

Can't see that without being on IG, which I am not.
They deleted then reposted. The gist of it according to Greg Zipadelli, is that SHR is looking to retain it's current line up for 2021. If true this squashes any Larson to the 14 speculation.

NASCAR didn't even do these things for a championship team in Furniture Row, they sure as hell aren't for a 25th place team with 0 wins or poles in its history
Maybe NASCAR should have done something for both of them, regardless of wins. If you don't ask why teams are leaving, how are you going to figure out how to encourage new ones?

I get why he’s leaving. I don’t get what he thinks NASCAR is supposed to be reaching out to him for. Is he supposed to get a farewell parade?

Furniture Row won a championship and got nary a thank you card from the sanctioning body. Doubt they care about Leavine and his zero wins as a team owner.

I get that COVID hurt his business and ultimately did in his race team. But he’s always whining about something.
It's crazy how some organizations are doing more with less and are able to sustain themselves, even through all of this madness. I don't see Derrike Cope and StarCom complaining, nor Rick Ware, or Archie St. Hilarie, or even Andrew Murstein and RPM.

He went all in on the JGR partnership and got bit in the end. He says he's going to write a book about his experience in NASCAR, I'll be sure to pick up a copy. The irony of it all is that he has a PDF talking about the ins and outs of picking up sponsors.

Well how the **** can you have that and you're closing your team? You obviously are not following your own advice.

No more surprising than Kez sticking with Penske; which is to say, not surprising at all.

I’d imagine the delay of the Next Gen car put a lot of Silly Season movement on hold. A lot of 1 year placeholder deals as a result.

At this point, all I see happening is Bubba likely staying at RPM. With more money and resources. Maybe a switch to Toyota.

That leaves CGR and the 42. If Bubba doesn’t sign, I’d snatch up Erik Jones and call it a day.

No clue what Hendrick has planned for the 48. Maybe they’re looking down the road for their long term replacement? Which case, how about putting Justin Allgaier and his Brandt money in the car for a year?

That leaves the 37 if Preece is let go. Likely choosing between Erik if he doesn’t get a better ride. Or LaJoie/ride buyer.

32 car is likely the same. Ride buyer, or maybe Briscoe with SHR support.

Rest of the field is crapboxes.

If true, it seems that the sponsors, the manufacturer, NASCAR, or a combination of them put the kibash on Larson taking a seat.

I think if he comes back I think he'll have to spend a year or two in a lower level car without a lot of manufacturer support

Larson has not even been cleared by NASCAR to participate in anything, until then its just talk. Not to mention sponsors and manufacturers still have to approve of him.

If jones gets the 48, then Noah is right there on the trail for him.

Regardless of how folks look at Noah... I feel he is going to be a Hendrick Cup driver and so far he’s showing exactly what you’d want so I don’t see how there would even be many doubters...

Jones would be the filler if this is all the case.

That's what I wrote.

I don't think any manufacturer or sponsor is going to want to tie itself to him unless things changed dramatically. As I wrote, in an earlier post, the downside of doing it in the larger marketplace outside of NASCAR would be huge.

No, it is not what you wrote.

He is suspended. He will remain under suspension until he requests a hearing and makes the case that he is redeemed. Manufacturer and corporate sponsorship may or may not follow that.

Given the current political climate surrounding the issue he stumbled his way into, I’m not holding my breath. The timing of his grievous error could not possibly be any worse. The B Main kid suspended for a similar remark, made not that long ago, was out for 2 races. People have had enough of this garbage.

I like Allgaier, but lets be honest about his ability, unless you just want a seat warmer. You can classify the current and former JRM drivers into two easy groups:

Group One:
Keselowski
Elliott
Byron
Reddick
Gragson

Group Two:
Smith
Sadler
Patrick
Witt
Allgaier
Annett

Which group do YOU want to chose from?

There's a lot of difference between funding an Xfinity car for 32 (?) races vs. a Cup car for 36+.

Nobody’s sponsoring anybody for 36 anymore. Minus a few exceptions. Ally being one of them. Let’s say they move over to Bowman next year. You bring Justin up, who will likely drive for cheap. Brandt fills in 10-12 races. Then you patchwork with Chevy Goods and whatever else they can scratch up. Might not be a bad stop gap plan. Then you reassess in 2022 if Noah Gragson is ready to roll. Or possibly Kyle Larson depending on his situation.

The part about that being typical of his experience in NASCAR is perhaps more concerning, especially being a chartered and RTA team the past several years. Makes it sound as if they're not looking for much perspective outside of the select few big team owners.

Hmmm... Petty to be the new Gibbs satellite team?

That’s a round about way to make sense out of the Hamlin/bubba rumors we were swimming through

I would think pop pop would find a way to keep him in the series if Ty wanted to stay around. Actually I think it would be cool to see how he'd run in the same equipment as Austin.
If they no longer have to support RPM as an allied team I think they should be able to absorb Ty’s entry from Germain. Would be contingent on funding of course, but I think the capacity would be there.

I think that organization have more than enough capacity. Let's not forget they had so much extra room and equipment that they worked with nascar to produce the 1st next gen car
